AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT EXPRESSES HOPE FOR PEACE AGREEMENT WITH ARMENIA THIS YEAR

MUNICH, Feb 15 (Bernama-QNA) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan could be signed this year, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

He made these remarks during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference.

“I hope we will sign a peace agreement this year,” Aliyev said, noting the new situation on the border from August 2025 until now, as there has been no shooting, no victims, no wounded and no problems.

He added that Azerbaijan is moving towards cooperation with Armenia, starting with the lifting of restrictions on cargo transportation through Azerbaijan.

“We are grateful to our Georgian friends for providing a very important transit route after the goods reach Azerbaijan and then go to Armenia through Georgia. We have also started the supply of oil products to Armenia, and thus have effectively begun mutual trade,” the Azerbaijani president said.

Talks between Baku and Yerevan witnessed progress following a meeting held on Aug 8, 2025, that brought together the President of Azerbaijan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan with United States President Donald Trump.

The talks resulted in both parties agreeing to cooperate with Washington and third parties to establish what has been called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which includes the opening of transport routes between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Armenian territory.
