TEHRAN, March 4 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- At least ten oil tankers were hit by missiles in the Strait of Hormuz, Mohammad Akbarzadeh, deputy commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"Considering the IRGC Navy's repeated warnings that the Strait of Hormuz is unsafe, more than ten oil tankers, which ignored these warnings, were hit by various missiles and burned," Akbarzadeh said as quoted by the Iranian news agency Fars.
He said that after Iran announced a ban on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the movement of oil, commercial, and fishing vessels through the strait became impossible.
Currently, Akbarzadeh said, the Strait of Hormuz is under the full control of the IRGC Navy.
