OVER 5,000 ENGINEERING STUDENTS TAKE PART IN MALAYSIA SEMICONDUCTOR RECRUITMENT DAY 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Semiconductor Recruitment Day (MSRD) marked a major milestone by connecting 5,000 final-year Electrical and Electronic (E&E) students nationwide with more than 30 leading semiconductor companies offering over 600 high-value job opportunities.

Organised by the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM) under the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), the fair facilitated over 1,500 on-the-spot interviews, reflecting strong hiring momentum and tangible employment outcomes for graduates. 

Sidec and ASEM, in a joint statement, said the students came from various institutions such as Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Their participation reflected nationwide engagement and growing interest in careers across chip design, verification, and research and development (R&D), reinforcing Selangor’s position as the hub of Malaysia’s semiconductor talent ecosystem.

Held alongside the 10th Selangor Smart City & Digital Economy Convention (SDEC2025), the event featured more than 30 global and local industry players, including AMD, Infineon Technologies, Texas Instruments, Vitrox, SkyeChip, Maistorage, FirstChip, STMicroelectronics, NXP, Tenasic, Oppstar, and Melexis.

The vacancies offered came with starting salaries ranging from RM5,000 to RM6,500 for fresh graduates, and up to RM35,000 per month for senior engineers.

ASEM general manager Angel Low said that the event marked Malaysia’s most successful semiconductor recruitment drive to date - a strong indication that the nation’s ecosystem is maturing and creating tangible opportunities for young talent.

“Through partnerships between industry and academia, we are building not just jobs, but careers that drive Malaysia’s deep-tech future,” she said in the same statement.

Meanwhile, Sidec and ASEM said the success of the event underscored Malaysia’s strong commitment to developing a skilled, high-income semiconductor workforce.

They noted that the Selangor government’s investments in the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park in Puchong and the upcoming IC Design Park 2 in Cyberjaya - along with ASEM’s target to train 20,000 engineers by 2035 - would further accelerate national growth under the National Semiconductor Strategy.

They added that the achievements of MSRD also reflected the alignment between Selangor’s deep-tech initiatives and Budget 2026, which emphasises semiconductor investment, talent development and innovation.
