24/11/2025 12:35 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The Northeast Monsoon (MTL) situation is being closely monitored daily to ensure the safety of the public at all times, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

He visited the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) team at the National Disaster Command Centre (NDCC) in Pulau Meranti, Puchong, today to receive a briefing on disaster management.

“I was informed that 11,009 victims from 3,839 families have been placed in temporary relief centres (PPS), involving 14 districts in seven states.

“The mobilisation of more than 100,000 personnel and assets from the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, Malaysian Volunteers Department and Public Works Department has been activated at operations locations to ensure readiness for aid and rescue,” he said in a post on his official social media today.

Shamsul Azri also stressed to all personnel that priority should be given to students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination, particularly in affected areas, so that they can continue their examinations in a safe and proper environment.

Seven states are reported to be affected by floods — Penang, Perlis, Perak, Kedah, Terengganu, Selangor and Kelantan — and the number of evacuees as of 8 am today has risen to 10,922, with Kelantan recording the highest number, placed in 33 PPS.

The MTL season began on Nov 13 and is expected to continue until March 2026.
