KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has set up operations rooms to ensure sufficient food supplies in the flood-hit states during the monsoon season.
Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, said the operations rooms in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan were activated today, adding that, so far, none of the locations had reported food supply cuts.
"So, any states that are affected, we have set up operations rooms to know if their food supplies have been cut.
"For example, if the supply of essentials like sugar and milk is cut, the operations room will ensure such necessities reach the affected areas,” she told a media conference after the ASEAN E-Commerce Conference 2025 here today.
She said that preparations have been made with 2,102 selected wholesalers, retailers and manufacturers nationwide being allowed to increase food supply storage by up to 30 per cent starting early this month until the end of the monsoon season.
The number of flood victims in seven states as of 8 am today increased to 10,922 people, with Kelantan recording the highest number of 8,248 people from 3,022 families who are all sheltering in 33 temporary relief centres.
Penang, Perlis and Perak also recorded an increased number of flood victims, while Kedah and Terengganu recorded a drop. Selangor, meanwhile, became the latest state to be hit by floods.
