KULIM, 17 Jan (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry (KDN) will mobilise all relevant agencies and utilise existing legal provisions to combat the forgery and misuse of MyKad among foreign workers in Malaysia.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the ministry is taking the matter seriously, particularly with the government implementing targeted subsidies to prevent benefits from being exploited by foreigners.
He acknowledged cases involving fake MyKads and the possession of other people’s MyKads by foreign workers, following a recent raid at an electronics factory in Selangor by the National Registration Department in collaboration with the Malaysian Immigration Department and the Manpower Department.
When asked about the investigation of the case, he said, what has been established is that the foreign workers used forged documents, with some purchasing the documents for RM300.
“The focus of our investigation is to use all legal provisions while coordinating with all relevant agencies,” he told reporters after the People-Friendly Project Indenture handing over ceremony to contractors at Kulim Hi-Tech Park here today.
Saifuddin Nasution said the probe will also scrutinise the support system surrounding foreign workers, including agents and employers, to ensure that every foreign worker in the country possesses valid documentation.
He added that the NRD maintains an accurate and reliable database, making it straightforward to detect counterfeit MyKads.
“Is it acceptable to use fake MyKads? Absolutely not. It will not escape our system, so it is better to stop this practice,” he stressed.
Earlier, Saifuddin Nasution, who is also the Joint Chairman of the Kedah State Development Action Council (MTPN), handed over an indenture to implement the People-Friendly Project worth RM2.3 million in the Kulim and Bandar Baharu districts to 35 contractors.
The project involves the repair of 10 houses in Kulim and three in Bandar Baharu, along with 17 infrastructure maintenance projects in Kulim and five in Bandar Baharu.
