FITSAIR LAUNCHES DIRECT COLOMBO-KLFLIGHTS, BOOSTING AIR CONNECTIVITY, BILATERAL TIES

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- Tourism Malaysia today welcomed the launch of a new direct flight route by FitsAir, Sri Lanka’s leading privately owned low-cost airline, connecting Colombo to Kuala Lumpur, further strengthening air connectivity and bilateral ties between the two countries.

The new service, which began today, operates four times a week – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays – providing greater convenience for travellers while offering a new low-cost travel option between the two capital cities. 

Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot said the new Colombo-Kuala Lumpur route enhances Malaysia’s appeal as a preferred destination for Sri Lankan tourists.

“We are excited about FitsAir’s new route to Kuala Lumpur, further enhancing Malaysia’s appeal as a top travel destination for Sri Lankan visitors. This initiative aims to increase flight frequencies and reinforces our commitment to promoting tourism in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026,” he said in a statement.

Also present at the launch were Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, FitsAir vice president of ground operations and service excellence Munir Parambath, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad general manager of aviation marketing and development Zainuddin Mohamed @ Zainal.

According to Tourism Malaysia, the country welcomed 61,766 Sri Lankan visitors in 2024, a 4.2 per cent increase from the previous year.

Currently, 30 direct flights offering 4,990 seats weekly connect Colombo and Malaysia, operated by Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, SriLankan Airlines, and now FitsAir.

Since launching its passenger services in 2022, FitsAir has focused on making travel more accessible while maintaining on-time, reliable, and hassle-free trips. The airline also operates international cargo flights, strengthening regional trade and logistics.
