BANGI, Oct 12 (Bernama) – Universiti Malaya (UM) was crowned the champion of the 2025 Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner's Cup Inter-Higher Education Institution Anti-Corruption Debate Competition.

The UM team, represented by Azhad Hafiz Md Razip Han, Muhammad Ammar Akrimi Azman, Khairul Nur Ayuni Rodzan Khairull, and Nur Amirah Syahirah Khairul Shakir, emerged victorious after defeating Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) in the final.

The members of the runner-up team from UPNM were Abdul Azim Azmi, Mohamad Marzuhaime Marzuki, Muhammad Idham Hafizie Zainuddin, and Sanjeevkumar Mahendran.

UM took home a cash prize of RM14,000, a trophy, and certificates, while UPNM received RM8,000, a trophy, and certificates.

UPNM's defeat, however, was somewhat offset by their debater, Muhammad Idham Hafizie, being named the Grand Final's Best Debater, winning a separate RM2,000 cash prize.

The competition, themed “Idealis Berintegriti, Pemacu Negara Madani” (Integrity-Driven Idealists, Drivers of a Madani Nation), continues the MACC's efforts to strengthen anti-corruption education through a fresher and more inclusive approach for the younger generation, particularly university students.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this year's theme reflects the Commission's aspiration to cultivate a younger generation that firmly upholds the values of integrity, thereby becoming drivers in forming a corruption-free MADANI society.

"Through this event, the MACC aims to strengthen its anti-corruption education approach by building critical mindsets and instilling integrity among university students so that they may become agents of change," he said in his closing speech.

The three-day debate, which commenced on Oct 10, was held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

The competition featured 40 teams from public and private universities, Teacher Education Institutes, MARA Education Institutions and polytechnics nationwide.

The annual competition, organised by the MACC, was held in collaboration with the Malaysian Universities Debating Council, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka and UKM.
