FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO FELDA LAND ISSUE IN TERENGGANU SETTLED EARLIER - FAHMI

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that all financial requirements and commitments related to the Felda land issue in Terengganu had already been settled by the federal government previously.

Clarifying the matter, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, explained this during today’s Cabinet meeting.

“The Prime Minister stated that all financial requirements related to the land have been settled, have been paid earlier, but there are several matters that were not followed up by the state government. 

“This afternoon, the Treasury secretary-general (Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican) held discussions with the Terengganu state government to ensure that what has been settled by the federal government is now followed up by the state government. This is very important,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending the national-level International Anti-Corruption Day 2025 celebration here today.

Last Sunday, the Terengganu government issued a notice prohibiting encroachment on Felda-managed land across 10 plantations covering about 15,000 hectares, claiming the land had been cultivated for more than 40 years without the payment of premiums, taxes or profit-sharing.

The notices were issued simultaneously to plantation management in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun and Hulu Terengganu.

Terengganu Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Food Security and Commodities Committee chairman Datuk Dr Azman Ibrahim was reported as saying the action was taken after Felda failed to respond to a demand for 30 per cent profit-sharing from the state-owned land that had been developed over the past 40 years.
