PKR'S PETO RELYING ON EXCELLENT FIVE-YEAR TRACK RECORD IN DEFENDING INANAM

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- Datuk Peto Galim, the incumbent for Inanam and Sabah PKR deputy chairman, is relying on his five-year record of delivering major projects for further development in the area, should he be given a renewed mandate in the 17th Sabah State Election.

Peto, 59, said his experience in administering Inanam has enabled him to focus on resolving long-standing issues such as traffic congestion, flooding, urban poverty, a lack of personal documentation and insufficient infrastructure.

He said his track record and close state-federal cooperation networks are proof of his ability to continue reinforcing Inanam's development,

"My five years as an assemblyman give me a clear advantage. We began work immediately and have delivered tangible results that the people of Inanam have witnessed firsthand," he told Bernama recently.

Peto, who is also Sabah PKR Election Machinery director, said several strategic projects have been successfully advanced through robust state-federal collaboration, including the nearly RM126 million Likas Flood Mitigation Project, which was approved this year.

“Once this project is fully completed in a few years, it will drastically reduce, if not eliminate, the severe flooding in Likas, Taman Nelly, Kolombong and Inanam,” he said.

He explained that through state-federal discussions and joint efforts, the flood mitigation project in Menggatal has also been reactivated, with an additional allocation of over RM30 million to complete its second phase, extending to the sea.

Peto added that several existing infrastructure projects, such as improvements to ease traffic congestion in Inanam town and road upgrades in Menggatal and Batu 5, are also a result of this productive collaboration.

“Just go to Inanam now. You will see the work in progress and the dramatic change, with the roundabout being converted into a signalised junction, which is nearly complete,” he said.

He also highlighted that his achievements include the official gazetting of more than 22 villages and the construction of over 300 homes under the Sabah Maju Jaya Rumah Mesra programme.

These homes have been provided directly to eligible families in the Inanam constituency since the programme's launch in 2022.

Furthermore, Peto said that the Inanam Main Community Hall project, which had been stalled for decades, has also been successfully revived through close cooperation between various parties, including the federal government.

“This time, the voters in Inanam are still hoping for solutions to fundamental issues, particularly those related to water supply, roads, traffic congestion, poverty, lack of documentation, infrastructure development, and job opportunities,” he said.

“The PKR president is the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. A victory in this state election, particularly in Inanam, would give us a significant advantage, allowing us to be part of the decision-making process and directive-setting within the Sabah government,” he added.

In his mission to reclaim Inanam, which is one of the state seats within the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency, alongside Karambunai and Darau, Peto will face a thirteen-cornered contest.

The Election Commission has set Nov 29 as the polling day, with early voting on Nov 25.
