KOTA BHARU, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Muaythai Association (PMK) is actively organising various muaythai tournaments in the state as preparation for athletes to face the Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

PMK deputy president, Mohd Ali Akbar Yusoff said among the tournaments organised is the Muaythai Tournament in conjunction with the Kelantan State Games.

“This tournament gives our athletes exposure to face real matches at SUKMA, where they will face boxers from other states.

"We also received cooperation from the state government, the Kelantan State Sports Council (MSN), as well as local muaythai associations and clubs to ensure that the tournament can be organised smoothly," he told Bernama recently.

He said the professional and amateur tournaments organised were PMK's commitment to ensure that Kelantan boxers could compete at SUKMA and bring home medals for the state.

"This tournament is also an alternative to improve boxers' fighting skills in the ring and to develop high discipline. Exposure through tournaments, whether professional or amateur, is very important to ensure their performance is at the best level,” he said.

Mohd Ali Akbar said his party is preparing training centres in several districts including Kota Bharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh to enable athletes to undergo continuous training.

“These training centres will enable boxers to hone their skills and stamina more intensively before competing at SUKMA,” he added.

According to him, a total of 26 boxers have been selected from muaythai clubs in the state to represent Kelantan at SUKMA next year.

Mohd Ali Akbar said the selected athletes are currently actively undergoing training at their respective clubs and are expected to compete fiercely at the sports event.
