SEREMBAN, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is actively promoting the use of the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme System (eCOSS) application among consumers statewide, to ensure better understanding of its use when purchasing subsidised cooking oil.
State Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S. Veerapan said eCOSS was developed to systematically monitor the purchase of subsidised cooking oil, and to curb leakages involving the subsidy.
He added that, with eCOSS registration, only Malaysians are eligible to purchase subsidised packet cooking oil, with a maximum limit of three packets per day.
“This advocacy effort is important to ensure the public understands the function of eCOSS, as its implementation is meant to ensure that subsidies truly reach the target group. Through this system, foreigners cannot purchase subsidised cooking oil.
“The comprehensive use of eCOSS not only enhances transparency, but also helps the state and federal governments monitor the distribution of subsidised cooking oil more effectively,” he told reporters after conducting a check at a supermarket in Senawang, today.
Veerapan said consumers who do not have the application can still make purchases, by filling in the logbook provided manually at the shop or supermarket.
He added that traders are encouraged to assign dedicated staff to assist users in registering for the application, especially those who are not familiar with the system.
Meanwhile, housewife, Chong Kwee Wing, 59, said that she was informed about the eCOSS application by a supermarket employee when she attempted to buy packet cooking oil.
“I didn’t know how to download the application. The supermarket staff here helped, and explained eCOSS to me. This is an effort to ensure that government assistance reaches those who truly deserve it,” she said.
Another housewife, Ruslina Amat, 61, said she downloaded the application a week ago and described eCOSS as important in preventing misuse and excessive purchases.
