KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- A total of 928,037 consumers have downloaded and are using the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation System (eCOSS) mobile application since it was launched in August, said Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.
She said the widespread use of the system, from production to the final consumer stage, will contribute to preventing leakage of subsidised packet cooking oil from happening.
"Previously, we only had the eCOSS system from factories to wholesalers and retailers… we stopped at the retailer level because the system stopped there. That's why many took advantage.
"With the availability of this eCOSS (app), we have reached the consumer level… we found that we can stem the leakage because every purchase must be recorded in this eCOSS,” she said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2026 at the committee level for the ministry at the Dewan Rakyat here today.
Fuziah said the application makes it mandatory for consumers to scan their identity card while making a purchase, thus enabling the subsidised packet cooking oil to be channelled to the targeted groups.
The Dewan Rakyat then approved the estimated operating and development expenditure of RM2,150,713,800 for the ministry under Budget 2026 by a majority voice vote.
