MACHANG, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- The National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) has allocated RM20 million to repair Tabika Perpaduan and Taska Perpaduan premises, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) affected by disasters.

Its director-general Zulkifli Hashim said the allocation will be utilised next year once the department receives applications from unity officers, with priority given to areas or premises affected by disasters such as floods and landslides.

“Based on last year’s records, nearly 116 premises, including Tabika Perpaduan and KRT, were affected by disasters such as floods and landslides, for which we allocated almost RM10 million for repair and maintenance works,” he said.

“Therefore, in preparing for potential disasters this year, the department is on standby, and immediate repair assistance will be provided in affected areas,” he told Bernama after officiating the Kelantan-level 2025 Children’s Day Celebration and Pintar Kreatif Tabika Perpaduan and Taska Perpaduan programme at the Dewan Kompleks Perpaduan Machang today.

Elaborating further, Zulkifli said that ahead of the anticipated floods this year, the department would take early precautions by ordering the immediate evacuation of students and teachers to safe locations, as well as relocating important documents, computers and other assets to higher ground.

“We will also direct KRT units to closely monitor river water levels and conduct community patrols in their respective areas, while ensuring that all premises clearly mark hazardous spots such as drains and areas prone to collapse,” he said.

He said that in Kelantan, a total of 25 Tabika and Taska Perpaduan have been identified as being at risk of flooding, including seven in Pasir Mas, four in Kota Bharu, and three each in Tanah Merah and Gua Musang.
