FLOOD VICTIMS RISE IN SELANGOR, DROP IN SEVERAL OTHER STATES

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Selangor increased tonight following the opening of two additional temporary relief centres (PPS), while figures in Kelantan, Kedah, Penang and Perlis declined compared to this afternoon, with Pahang remaining unchanged.

In SELANGOR, evacuees rose to 2,910 from 789 families, up from 2,773 from 749 families this afternoon.

Two new PPS, Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Gemilang in Dengkil and Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Mahang in Kuala Selangor, were activated, bringing the total to 23 PPS statewide.

In KEDAH, the number of victims dropped slightly to 1,629 from 543 families as of 8 pm, compared with 1,640 from 525 families earlier, with all evacuees placed at 14 PPS in Kubang Pasu.

The Kedah Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said numbers may rise as Kota Setar became a newly affected district, with two PPS opened at SK Taman Aman and SK Taman Uda.

In KELANTAN, evacuees decreased to 9,337 from 3,484 families tonight, compared with 9,959 this afternoon.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, 41 PPS remain operational across Kota Bharu, Tumpat, Bachok and Pasir Puteh.

In PENANG, only one PPS is still operating, sheltering 50 evacuees from 11 families, down from 121 from 30 families this afternoon.

InfoBencana data at 7.36 pm showed that SK Permatang Pasir in Seberang Perai Tengah continues to accommodate affected residents.

In PERLIS, the number of evacuees declined to 5,244 tonight from 5,591 this afternoon, with all placed at 17 PPS in Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar.

In PAHANG, the number of evacuees remained at 42 from 19 families as of 8 pm, with 23 people at PPS Balai Raya Kampung Ulu Sungai in Raub and 19 at PPS Dewan Serbaguna Dato Omar Kuala Medang in Lipis.
