KINABATANGAN, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin is confident that the growing momentum of support for BN and UMNO places the coalition in a strong position to win the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).
Bung Moktar, who is defending the Lamag state seat, said records received by the party show that UMNO is beginning to regain dominance in terms of support, following the comprehensive groundwork it has carried out from the outset - marking an improvement compared to the 2020 state election.
“The support provided by our UMNO machinery from the Peninsula, particularly from Pahang and Kedah UMNO, has further strengthened our ground operations for this election,” he said at a gathering with Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail here today.
The Kinabatangan Member of Parliament said that in the final days of the campaign period, UMNO is intensifying efforts to engage with voters who traditionally support the coalition and party.
“I have instructed all machinery across Sabah to mobilise their teams to ensure these voters turn out to cast ballots, thereby securing our victory,” he said.
On the issue of road connectivity, Bung Moktar said the state government, through the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR), must engage with its federal counterpart to expedite road construction in the constituency.
He added that if BN is given the mandate to form the government, resolving the road problem would be prioritised as one of the first matters to be addressed.
Commenting on his health, Bung Moktar acknowledged that he experienced some issues at the start of the campaign. However, following his doctor’s advice, he was cleared to continue campaigning.
“Tomorrow, I will hold a leisure programme with youths in Lamag, which is expected to draw around 1,200 participants,” he said.
Polling day for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN), which will see 73 state seats contested, is set for this Saturday (Nov 29).
