SELANGOR, PAHANG RECORD SLIGHT RISE IN FLOOD VICTIMS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in seven states has not changed much, with only Selangor and Pahang recording a slight increase tonight.

In SELANGOR, the number of flood victims increased to 2,603 people (691 families) tonight compared with 2,467 people from 654 families recorded this afternoon.

According to the Infobencana portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), a total of 15 relief centres that remained open involved three districts, namely Klang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.

In PAHANG, the number of flood victims also rose slightly to 63 people from 18 families, compared with 21 people from eight families this afternoon.

According to Infobencana JKM, 33 victims (12 families) were placed in three relief centres in the Lipis district, while 30 victims (six families) were placed in six relief centres in the Raub district.

In PERLIS, the number of flood victims remained relatively unchanged at 7,624 people tonight compared with 7,622 victims this afternoon.

Based on data from the Perlis State Disaster Management Secretariat, all flood victims were still accommodated at 24 relief centres involving the areas of Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar.

A similar situation was recorded in KEDAH with 4,272 people (1,412 families) placed at 21 relief centres tonight compared with 4,270 people from 1,442 families this afternoon.

According to the Kedah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), the Kubang Pasu district recorded the highest number of victims with 2,481 people from 859 families seeking shelter at 14 relief centres, followed by Kota Setar with 1,726 people (523 families) at five relief centres, and 65 people (30 families) at two relief centres in the Pokok Sena district.

Meanwhile, improved weather this afternoon in KELANTAN saw the number of flood victims reduced to 7,849 people from 2,906 families (52 relief centres) in eight flood-affected districts compared with 9,187 victims this afternoon.

According to the state Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Secretariat, Tumpat continues to record the highest number of victims at 3,937 people from 1,520 families, followed by Bachok (1,485 victims, 464 families) and Kota Bharu (1,093 victims, 421 families).

The five other affected districts are Pasir Mas (158 victims, 89 families), Machang (485 victims, 186 families), Tanah Merah (341 victims, 113 families), Kuala Krai (250 victims, 85 families), and Gua Musang (100 victims, 28 families).

TERENGGANU also recorded a reduction in flood victims to 3,667 people (1,150 families) tonight compared with 4,111 people (1,245 families) this afternoon.

Based on the InfoBencana JKM portal, a total of 53 relief centres were open in seven districts, with Marang recording the highest number of victims at 1,454 people (406 families) in nine relief centres.

This was followed by Setiu with 1,108 people (396 families) in 21 relief centres; Kemaman 602 people (172 families) in nine relief centres; Kuala Terengganu 187 people (87 families) in one relief centre; Dungun 156 people (35 families) in five relief centres; Besut 107 people (37 families) in six relief centres; and Hulu Terengganu 60 people (17 families) in two relief centres.

In PERAK, the Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said the relief centre at SJKC Manong in Kuala Kangsar, which housed 71 victims from 36 families, was closed and all victims were allowed to return to their homes.

This brought the total number of flood victims in the state down tonight, with 5,455 people (1,651 families) still placed at 45 relief centres in six districts compared with 5,689 people (1,749 families) this afternoon.

The Manjung district continued to record the highest number of victims at 2,185 people from 678 families at 18 relief centres, while Perak Tengah recorded 1,373 people, Hilir Perak (1,356), Bagan Datuk (407), Muallim (19) as well as Larut, Matang and Selama (115).
