KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Perak and Selangor showed signs of improvement this morning, with fewer evacuees seeking shelter at temporary relief centres compared to last night; however, several areas remain at danger levels and on alert.

In PERAK, 613 evacuees from 174 families are still housed at seven relief centres across three districts, a drop from 680 people from 195 families reported last night.

The Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat said evacuees who have been staying at the centres for the past three weeks have not been allowed to return home as their houses remain inundated.

Hilir Perak continues to record the highest number of victims, with 304 people from 80 families sheltering at four relief centres. This is followed by Manjung, where 163 evacuees from 47 families are housed at two centres, while 146 people from 47 families remain at the Bagan Datuk Youth and Sports Complex relief centre.

The Perak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reported that the water level of Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong remained at the danger level, rising to 3.65 metres compared with the normal level of 2.0 metres. Meanwhile, Sungai Slim in Slim River recorded an alert level of 25.34 metres, exceeding its normal level of 23.5 metres.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast morning and evening rain for the districts of Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim, with thunderstorms expected in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Kinta, Kampar and Kuala Kangsar districts are expected to experience rain in the afternoon and evening.

Meanwhile, in SELANGOR, the number of flood evacuees housed at a relief centre dropped to 38 people from 12 families this morning, compared with 40 people from 13 families last night.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, all evacuees are currently being housed at the only relief centre still operating in Kuala Selangor, Sekolah Rendah Agama Pasangan.
