PADAWAN, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMSB) today held the groundbreaking ceremony for its RM673 million Mambong Clinker Line 2 project, a strategic investment aimed at significantly enhancing cement production capacity and supporting Sarawak’s rapidly expanding infrastructure and economic development.
CMSB group managing director Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib said the project, which is expected to commence operations in mid-2027, will play a critical role in ensuring a stable supply of high-quality cement to meet the state’s long-term development needs.
“This project not only strengthens our production capabilities, but more importantly guarantees a reliable supply of quality cement to support Sarawak’s fast-growing infrastructure and economy,” he said in his welcoming speech for the event held at the Mambong Integrated Plant here today.
The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who expressed appreciation to CMSB’s board of directors and management for its continued commitment to Sarawak’s development.
Sulaiman said the new plant will be equipped with advanced ‘waste heat recovery system’ technology capable of generating about six megawatts of clean energy, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
“The facility will also feature advanced dust filtration systems to ensure emissions remain well below current regulatory limits, in line with CMSB’s commitment to environmental sustainability,” he added.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari said the Clinker Line 2 project, which will increase clinker production to 1.9 million tonnes from 900,000 tonnes per year, is a strategic expansion that will help meet the growing demand for cement arising from Sarawak’s expanding industrial, construction and infrastructure sectors.
He said the expansion will enable CMSB to meet Sarawak’s overall cement demand while reducing reliance on imports.
The RM673 million investment forms part of CMSB’s broader capital commitment of about RM2 billion across its cement ecosystem since it began operations in Sarawak in 1974, covering cement and clinker production, concrete manufacturing and logistics networks.
