BANGKOK, Dec 18 (Bernama) The Malaysian contingent has successfully realised its 200-medal target at the Thailand 2025 SEA Games, accumulating a total of 204 medals as of the ninth day of the competition, which concludes this Saturday.

Of that total, Malaysia has secured 46 gold, 49 silver, and 109 bronze medals, currently placing fifth in the medal standings as of 10 pm.

The achievement of 46 gold medals also improves upon the previous edition's record, where Malaysia only secured 34 gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

Following this encouraging performance, the National Sports Council (MSN) has set a new target, eyeing the opportunity to collect more gold medals to overtake Singapore, which is currently in fourth place with 48 gold medals.

To achieve this, Malaysia appears well-positioned to add to its collection, with attention focused on the track cycling competition, where two gold medals will be up for grabs tomorrow.

Malaysia also stands a chance to sweep the gold medals in both indoor and field hockey at the Thailand 2025 SEA Games, after the national men’s and women’s squads both advanced to their respective finals.

Two more gold medals are already guaranteed for the country, as both the men’s and women’s individual squash events will feature all-Malaysian finals at Vajiravudh College tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian camp continued its stellar performance today with several events contributing gold, including archery, which saw the national men’s compound trio deliver a gold medal after defeating hosts Thailand.

Competing at the Sports Authority of Thailand Archery Range, the compound trio of Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki, Alang Ariff Aqil Muhammad Ghazalli, and Muhammad Aiman Syafiq Mohd Tariki displayed great composure in challenging weather conditions to record a 232-228 victory.

Track cycling drew the most attention after sweeping three golds: Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom in the men's keirin, followed by Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir in the women's scratch race, and the men's team pursuit quartet who defeated Thailand in the final.

The kabaddi squad capped off Malaysia’s glorious day by making history, clinching the country's first-ever SEA Games gold medal in the sport after the men's team defeated Thailand in the 3-Star event final at Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin.
