AGAM (Indonesia), Dec 18 (Bernama-ANTARA) -- Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto aims to complete the temporary housing for disaster-affected residents in Salareh Aia Village, Agam District, West Sumatra, within one month, reported ANTARA news agency.
"I'm happy to see that construction of the temporary housing has begun. The temporary housing could be completed within a month," Prabowo said while inspecting the site and meeting with residents on Thursday.
The President said that once the temporary housing is completed, residents will no longer need to stay in evacuation tents. He added that the government also plans to build permanent homes for those affected.
The President said the permanent housing units would be of sufficient quality and size, covering an area of about 70 square metres.
"Soon after that, we will build permanent housing units. The quality is quite good, and the permanent housing units will be fairly spacious, at around 70 square metres," Prabowo said.
Prabowo also conveyed his appreciation to all parties involved in the disaster management and recovery efforts in Agam.
According to him, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), as well as central and regional governments, have worked together to improve conditions in the affected areas.
Prabowo emphasised that the government will continue to monitor the situation and consider further measures to improve conditions for communities affected by the disaster.
President Prabowo arrived in West Sumatra on Wednesday to review several areas affected by floods and landslides. Among the areas included, Agam, Padang Pariaman, and Tanah Datar districts.
