JOHOR BAHRU, April 1 (Bernama) -- Shanghai-based global technology company LongCheer Technology is planning an investment of about RM500 million which is expected to create 200 highly skilled job opportunities in Johor.

Chairman of the state Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee Lee Ting Han said the matter was discussed in a meeting during the state government's official visit to the city.

He said the investment would open up job opportunities in various fields including engineering, product development and sectors related to the modern electronics industry.

According to him, the company, which was established in 2002, is one of the world's leading players in the field of design, manufacturing of electronic devices or original design manufacturers (ODM) in addition to developing various smart devices with international brands.

“Although the name LongCheer Technology may not be well known to the public, the fact is that the technology they develop is widely used throughout the world,” he said in a Facebook post.

Lee said the company is involved in the development of products such as smartphones, artificial intelligence (AI)-based computers, wearable devices, smart glasses and mixed reality (MR) devices.

“This shows its capabilities not only in manufacturing, but also in design, innovation and research on the latest technology,” he said.

He said the meeting also focused on the potential for long-term cooperation and highlighted Johor's role as a major destination for high-tech investment in the region.

According to him, the presence of investors such as LongCheer will indirectly open up space for the development of a more advanced technology ecosystem in Johor.

He said it included technology transfer and talent development as well as opportunities for local companies to become part of the global supply chain.

He said this investment was also in line with Johor's direction to become a high-income state based on value-added industries, especially in the electronics, digital and smart technology sectors.

“With Johor's strategic position and the support of initiatives such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, we are on the right track to attract more quality investments like this,” he said.
