SEPANG, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Honda Team Asia rider Taiyo Furusato secured his maiden victory in the Moto3 category by dominating the 2025 Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) here today.

Starting from second on the grid, the Japanese rider swiftly overtook Leopard Racing’s David Almansa and maintained his composure to romp home in style.

Furusato, who made his Moto3 debut in 2022, crossed the finish line in 22 minutes 03.888 seconds, with Angel Piqueras of FRINSA-MT Helmets-MSI 2.259 seconds (s) behind, while Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez completed the podium in third (+2.625s).

Meanwhile, it was a debut to forget for Malaysia’s young talent Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli, who was forced to retire due to a technical issue with his bike during lap five.

Hakim Danish, who started 12th on the grid, was running in 11th place before the unfortunate incident occurred.

Earlier, the main race was delayed for almost two hours after a crash involving newly-crowned world champion Jose Antonio Rueda and Noah Dettwiler.

The incident occurred during the sighting lap at about 11.45 am, when Rueda of Red Bull KTM Ajo collided into the back of CIP Green Power rider Dettwiler shortly after Turn 3, just moments before the main race was scheduled to begin at 12 noon.

The collision prompted race officials to wave the red flag.

Sighting lap is the lap that riders undertake from the pit lane to the starting grid to get their position, approximately 20 minutes before the race starts.

According to the race medical director, both Rueda and Dettwiler were conscious following the crash and were airlifted to a local hospital for further treatment.

As a result of the incident the Moto3 race was shortened to 10 laps from the original 15.
